Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center (Hillsboro) and Sunnyside Medical Center (Clackamas) Volunteer Summer Program are an excellent fit for high school or college students who are only available during the summer break to volunteer. Our goal is to provide an opportunity to give you meaningful experiences in areas of the hospital, not all of which might be traditionally associated with being a healthcare volunteer but are valuable to the overall satisfaction and needs of our members and visitors.
These roles will give you an opportunity to fulfill your volunteer needs based on your course requirements, pre-requisites for programs or scholarship requests.
Our summer program asks you to commit to two weekly (weekdays) and regularly scheduled shifts with each shift being four hours (music volunteers are two-hour shifts). We require 25 shifts to complete the summer program. Based on the length of time you will be on summer break; this may mean you need to pick up extra shifts in addition to your regularly scheduled shifts.
You will be required to complete an application, five compliance required online trainings, be in a group interview, submit immunization information and labs for verification and if you are 18 years of age or older, complete a background check (requires a social security number). You will also need to participate in an online onboarding session. Your onboarding experience will take at least four weeks and should be completed before you end your school year.
At the interview, we will ask you for your last day of school, and the date you will be back in the Metro area so we can determine dates for safety tours and badge requirements. We will also need to know the date you must end your volunteer experience so we can support your program requirements of 25 shifts.
In this program you will get the opportunity to see how everything we do to support the members, patients and staff makes a difference and helps to provide a positive experience. Please see the program that best fits your location to find out about the specific programs for summer volunteers we are offering.
Applications for our summer programs will open on January 1, 2025, and close when the program is full.
