Kaiser Permanente Northwest Hospitals
(Oregon and Southwest Washington)
College Volunteers
We offer a robust hospital volunteer experience for students looking for experience and academic credit. The hospital is a great place to volunteer for anyone pursuing a professional career, military, world of work or technical programs to get experience in patient interaction, customer service, and exposure to a hospital setting. Please note that if you have hours requirement for school programs, our time requirement takes precedent first, not your programs requirement. You will be expected to meet the commitment level for the program before any total hours verification can be released.
Recommended Minimum Commitment Requirement
100 HOURS & 9 MONTHS on a weekly basis of at least four hours a week. We ask all volunteers to have enough flexibility in their schedules to commit to volunteering. If you work full time/part time and go to school, it will be difficult for us to provide you an accommodating schedule. We also ask that you try to volunteer during weekday days to get a more robust experience.
How to become a VOLUNTEER
Step 1
COMPLETE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION
Fill out the online application below according to your facility: either Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro, OR or Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas, OR. Applications must be filled out completely to be accepted. All volunteers must have an email that is regularly checked.
Step 5
New Volunteer orientation (nvo)
You will participate in a New Volunteer Orientation via Zoom. We will discuss important information needed to help you be successful with volunteering. We schedule your volunteer assignment and a hospital safety tour at this meeting, so please have your schedule available.
Step 2
Pre-Interview Compliance Trainings
Your application and availability will be reviewed. We review for completeness, volunteer availability, and determine if this is a fit for our program. If it is a fit, we will email you a link to complete necessary pre-interview compliance trainings. After reviewing each training, you will be asked to complete an attestation. This lets us know you have completed and understand the trainings.
Step 6
NVO Documents
Throughout the onboarding process you will receive notification of documents to sign. These forms are required and must be signed before the hospital safety tour.
Step 3
Participate in an Interview
Once your trainings are complete, you will receive an invite for a phone or group interview via Zoom. Further information will be provided about our program and next steps at the interview.
Step 7
Safety Tour
Once required documents have been signed and received by Volunteer Services, we will proceed with your scheduled safety tour of the hospital.
Step 4
Background check + Health Screening
Kaiser Permanente requires all volunteers to complete a health screening. If you are 18 or older, you must also have a background check. Applicants must have a valid SSN. You will receive an email from our background vendor, First Advantage with the additional information they need to process this for you.
Step 8
Service Area Training + First Day
Training with the unit will be scheduled. Your first day will then be the week following your training date. Please allow for flexibility in your training date.
